IT Implementation Checklist

There are two types of implementations for kiosk PCs:

For more detailed installation instructions, please see the kiosk installation article.

PC Image

  1. Source hardware.

    • PC - no minimum requirements other than Windows 10 or above and enough resources to effectively run a Chrome or Chromium-based web browser.

    • USB barcode scanner - must be able to scan PDF417 barcodes.

    • Label printer - DYMO LabelWriter and Zebra printers are supported.

  2. Distribute hardware to appropriate locations.

  3. Create PC image:

    • Determine the environment variable used in a login script (usually %computername%).
    • Install the login script with determined environment variable.
    • Configure kiosk functionality.
    • Provide Green Security with testing PC environment variable.
    • Test PC booting to correct kiosk page.
    • Test barcode scanner scanning vendor badge and/or visitor driver's license.

    If printing:

    • Install web service for automatic printing from the web browser.
    • Provide Green Security with printer name (for printer pre-selection).
    • Test automatic printer selection.
    • Test automatic printing.
  4. Distribute image to PCs.

Green Security does not own or manage kiosk hardware. The method of image distribution is at the facility's discretion.

  5. Provide PC environment variable zone association list to Green Security.

Manual Configuration

  3. At each location:

    • Locate the auto-login URL provided by Green Security for that kiosk location.
    • Configure kiosk functionality.
    • Test PC booting to correct kiosk page.
    • Test barcode scanner scanning vendor badge and/or visitor driver's license.

    If printing:

    • Install web service for automatic printing from the web browser.
    • Select the appropriate printer when prompted from the kiosk page.
    • Test automatic printing.

Barcode Scanner Test

Several parts of the Green Security system take advantage of barcode scanners for quick data entry. The most complex barcode scanned is on a driver's license, which is a PDF417 barcode, and example is shown below.

To test your barcode scanner, first place the cursor in the textbox below, then scan either barcode. If your scanner is able to scan the barcode below, and if the text that appears in the textbox matches the text to the right of the barcode, then the barcode scanner will work with the Green Security system. It may be that your scanner only works with the vendor QR codes but not driver's licenses.

DYMO SSL Issue

Before proceeding, please confirm that the DYMO Connect software has been installed using the DYMO Printing tutorial.

On some installations of the DYMO Connect package of software, the logged in user doesn't have permission to view the private key associated with the local certificate that the background DYMO web service uses.

Please note, this is an issue with the DYMO package of software. While the Green Security application is dependent on the DYMO software to print automatically from the web browser, Green Security has no control over how the DYMO software is built.

To confirm that the permissions issue exists, click the DYMO icon in the computer's system tray, then select the "Diagnose" option. If an message indicating an SSL issue appears, then the permissions issue exists.

To correct the permissions issue, do the following:

  1. Run a command prompt as an administrator.
  2. Enter the command "certlm" and press enter.
  3. On the window that appears, select Personal > Certificates.

  4. Find the localhost certificate associated with the DYMO web service.
  5. Right click on the certificate and select All Tasks > Manage Private Keys.

Note: If you receive a "No keys found" message here, the DYMO Connect software package will need to be uninstalled and then reinstalled.

  6. On the permissions window that appears, make sure your local users group has permission to read.

Note: it's important that the local users group on the computer has permission to read. Setting the individual user that will supposedly be logged in when the computer is running has been shown to not always work.

  7. Restart the computer, then click the DYMO icon in the system tray, select the "Diagnose" option, and confirm no error messages appear.

Scrub Machine Browser Settings

The communication device inside the scrubs vending machines does not allow for https communication. Because of this, there's a redirect to a dispense page residing on a non-https page. Newer versions of Chrome have forced https connections on redirects, causing the dispense to fail. To correct this, the domain on which the dispense page resides needs to be allowed to show insecure content. Here's how to do that:

  1. Go to Chrome settings > Privacy and Security > Insecure Content
    chrome://settings/content/insecureContent
  2. Add the domain d37hfq3t37fvvd.cloudfront.net to the list of domains allowed to show insecure content.
