iPad MDM Installation

There are various MDMs available, and each MDM is configured differently. Please use the following steps as general rules when configuring the device with your MDM.

  1. Install the Gatekeeper Kiosk app.

  2. Allow the following permissions:

    • Camera access
    • Receive notifications
    • Find and connect to devices on local network (only necessary for scrubs vending machine installations)

  3. Configure the device to connect to Wi-Fi.

  4. Go to "Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size".

    • Turn off "Auto-Brightness".
  5. Go to "Settings > Display & Brightness".

    • Turn the brightness all the way up by sliding the "Brightness" slider to the right.
    • Turn off "Night Shift".
    • Set "Auto-Lock" to "Never".
    • If available, turn off "Lock/Unlock".
  6. Open the installed app.

    • Allow any permissions that are requested.
    • If presented with a login screen, click the "Use Code Instead" button.
    • Enter the provided iPad code for the zone for this iPad.
    • Select your facility and press the "Continue" button.
    • Select your zone and press the "Continue" button.
    • Verify the facility and zone, then press the "Start Gatekeeper" button.
  7. Configure the device for single-app mode.

iPad Manual Installation

Please follow ALL of the steps below in the order they are displayed.

  1. Go to "Settings > Wi-Fi".

    • Select the wifi network to which you want the ipad to connect.
    • Accept any terms and conditions.
    • Verify the internet connection by going to google.com in Safari.
  2. Go to "Settings > General > Software Update".

    • Verify the ipad is up to date.
    • Install any updates if necessary.
  3. Go to "Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size".

    • Turn off "Auto-Brightness".
  4. Go to "Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access".

    • Turn on "Guided Access".
    • Click "Passcode Settings".
    • Click "Set Guided Access Passcode".
    • Enter "258456" as the passcode (or another if you'd prefer, that's our standard).
  5. Go to "Settings > Display & Brightness".

    • Turn the brightness all the way up by sliding the "Brightness" slider to the right.
    • Turn off "Night Shift".
    • Set "Auto-Lock" to "Never".
    • If available, turn off "Lock/Unlock".
  6. From the App Store, install the Gatekeeper Kiosk app.

  7. Open the installed app.

    • Login with a facility user who has Gatekeeper permission.
    • Select your facility and press the "Continue" button.
    • Select your zone and press the "Continue" button.
    • Verify the facility and zone, then press the "Start Gatekeeper" button.
  8. Turn on guided access.

    • Triple-click the home button.
    • If starting guided access for the first time, click the "Start" button in the top-right corner of the screen.
    • Verify that guided access has started by clicking the "Home" button. You should see a "Guided Access is enabled" banner at the top of the screen.
  9. Test turning off guided access. (Optional)

    • Triple-click the home button.
    • Enter the passcode ("258456" by default).
    • Click the "End" button in the top-left corner of the screen.
    • Verify guided access is turned off by clicking the "Home" button. The app should minimize to the home screen.
    • Return to the previous step to turn guided access back on.

If an iPad has become unresponsive, stuck in guided access mode, constantly rebooting, or having other issues preventing the app from functioning correctly, it most likely needs to be restored to factory settings. To do so, follow these instructions:

Computer Installation

  1. Obtain the "Green Security Demo Badges" document from either customer service or your assigned implementation specialist. This document has both valid and invalid badges for each level of access.

  2. Connect the handheld barcode scanner to the computer.

  3. Verify that the barcode scanner scans.

    • Open notepad and scan the test QR code.
    • Verify that text is displayed.
  4. Install Chrome from google.com/chrome.

  5. Find the auto-login link for the zone where the computer will reside (this is available in the facility FAQ or would have been given to you by our customer service team).

  6. Set the auto-login link as the home page for Chrome.

    • Open "Chrome > Preferences > On Startup".
    • Select "Open a specific page or set of pages".
    • Click the "Add a new page" button.
    • Enter the auto-login link as the and click the "Add" button.
    • Verify that only the auto-login link is in the list of startup pages.

    Note: auto-login links use the grn.ac domain, but will redirect to the greensecurityllc.com domain. It’s important to use the grn.ac link as the URL for the home page, not the greensecurityllc.com one.

  7. Close Chrome.

  8. Open Chrome and verify that the Gatekeeper screen opens.

  9. Place one of the demo badge QR codes under the scanner and verify it scans and that Gatekeeper gives a response.


Printing

Green Security does utilize printing at some kiosks. Currently DYMO LabelWriter and Zebra printers are supported for automatic printing from the browser. Please follow the appropriate installation for your printer:
